Paula Brown

Hello! I’m Paula Brown, I’m a 43 year old American and here’s my profile.

I’m a graphic artist and I own my own company here in Botswana called Ecubed Business Systems, our focus is on digital marketing. As a professional, I love finding new creative ways to help entrepreneurs. I strongly believe in the importance of customer service and that the customer comes first. I’m a workaholic, but I make sure I find the time to do the things I love such as networking both online and off.

On a personal level, I describe myself as having a sincere heart for God. I am a wife and a mother. I am a creative enthusiast and I love the arts. I love traveling and meeting new people. I think others would describe me as kind, someone with a heart of gold, genuine, outgoing and fun, fun, fun!

When I’m not working and networking and working some more, I exercise my creative skills in the kitchen, as I love baking. In one year from now I see myself still in Botswana expanding my company and developing partnerships globally.

I live in Francistown, Botswana with my family and I’m originally from Longview, Texas. Longview is a very small, rural town in Texas. It’s about 170 miles from Dallas. Francistown is the second largest city in Botswana, but yet it has a very small population. The locals are very nice and mostly welcoming. We have been here a year now and most of the people at the local stores know us by name or as The Americans! It’s a small town, but we enjoy it. Since our hometown was also small and rural, the change is not that drastic.

I would say my greatest achievement thus far is making the decision to start my own company.

Botswana…

Our decision to move to a country within Africa was spiritual. My husband and I visited Botswana about 2 and a half years ago. We knew we wanted to move to Africa, but we weren’t sure which country to move to. We did extensive online research for almost a year and we narrowed the possibilities down, prayed about it, and hopped on a plane! After visiting Botswana, we knew it was the place for us! We went back home for a year and made preparations to relocate.

What makes Botswana such a wonderful country is its Governmental structure, Botswana has a low crime rate, there are entrepreneurship opportunities and of course the people. If I could change anything it would be the immigration process. Sorry Botswana, but the immigration process is very difficult for foreigners to enter successfully.

Other than Francistown, I have been to the capital city, Gaborone and Kasane. Gaborone is great for shopping and has some lovely restaurants. We enjoyed the Chobe Game Reserve in Kasane very much! I’d like to visit Maun; I’ve heard the Delta is breath taking! I’ve tried a few local dishes and seswaa is very nice with pap! I also enjoy an occasional fat cake, which is commonly known as legwinya!

Botswana celebrated 50 years of Independence last year (2016), going forward I would like to see Botswana embrace technology more. I believe there is a way to balance moving forward while keeping the essence of your heritage.

YourBotswana…

I discovered YourBotswana through LinkedIn. My first impression… WOW! There’s so much information on Botswana! I enjoy the Lifestyle posts as I think they give a glimpse into what Botswana has to offer. Honestly, I think YourBotswana is a great platform that provides a wealth of information on Botswana.

Before we decided to move to Botswana, my husband and I tried desperately to find information online. There were a few drops in the bucket, but nothing compared to what you find on this website. The information is extremely valuable to expats! If there was anything I would change about the website it would be nothing, I wouldn’t change a thing!

Thanks for reading my profile.
