Botswana is the best country in Africa for a safari. That’s the conclusion reached after a detailed study of more than 4,000 expert and safari-goer reviews. This is the third time Botswana has won, having also taken the previous two prizes.
July 18, 2023: SafariBookings.com, an online marketplace for African safari tours, has undertaken a comprehensive study of more than 4,000 reviews completed by both safari-goers and African travel experts. After looking at a range of categories, from wildlife and birding to bush and scenic value, SafariBookings.com is proud to announce that Botswana wins the crown for the best safari country in Africa.
Botswana is a worthy winner. This is the land of the Okavango Delta and the Kalahari Desert, of black-maned lions in one of the world’s biggest sand deserts and Africa’s largest elephant population. Whether you’re driving out into the wilderness or flying into a luxury camp, Botswana is the best.
Close behind Botswana was Tanzania, followed by Zambia in third. But a detailed look at the results throws up some fascinating tallies. Using the combined votes of safari-goers and experts, for example, Tanzania came out on top for both wildlife and scenic value.
Using a different measure, Zambia came first in the votes of safari travellers for the best wildlife, and was the experts’ choice for the best African country for a birding safari.
And in a result to watch for the future, when the votes of experts were excluded, Uganda staked its claim by winning the overall vote by safari-goers as the best country to go on safari.
But for now, for the third time in a row, Botswana is the undisputed winner, and continues – deservedly – to wear the crown as Africa’s best safari country.
