Surat manufacturers have opened around 20 diamond cutting and polishing units in Botswana. Vallabh Lakhani, Chairman of Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB), has told The Times of India that Indian manufacturers from Surat have opened around 20 diamond cutting and polishing units in Botswana recently, IDEX Online reports.
Botswana is the world’s second biggest diamond producing country, as well as the host of De Beers’ 10 annual Sights.
According to Lakhani, the 20 units that have opened are small in size “but gradually, city companies are opening polishing centres there.”
According to the report, each of the units typically has a staff compliment of 50 to 100 workers.
