The latest research from the Global Passport Power Rank 2020 has ranked the Botswana passport 4th best in Africa and 42nd globally.
Botswana tied with Honduras, Saudi Arabia and Oman on position 42. The world’s passports are ranked using a three-tier method based on total mobility score (MS), visa-free (VF) and visa on arrival (VOA) privileges. Botswana passport has a mobility score of 68 and has a world reach of 34%.
The Botswana passport allows you visa-free entry into 39 countries, 29 countries with visa on arrival clearance and 130 countries where visas are required. For a country to have the strongest passport in the world, it has to be welcomed by other countries and the higher the mobility score, the better global mobility its passport bearer enjoys.
Seychelles has the strongest passport in Africa and is ranked 27th. Seychelles passport holders can enter 55 countries visa-free, 29 countries with visa on arrival and 114 countries where visas are required. Seychelles also has a mobility score of 84 and a world reach of 42%. Mauritius is second-best in Africa while South Africa has the third strongest passport in Africa.
Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Germany managed to secure a global spot, thereby emerging as a strong and competitive global player with the best passport in the world. German passport can enter 96 countries visa-free, 35 countries with visa on arrival and 64 countries where visas are required. Germany also has a mobility score of 134 and world reach of 67%. Germany tied with Luxembourg on position 1.
The 2020 Index analysed the passports of 199 countries comprising 193 United Nations (UN) member countries and six territories (ROC Taiwan, Macao (SAR China), Hong Kong (SAR China), Kosovo, Palestinian Territory and the Vatican). The Passport Index is an interactive passport ranking tool and is updated as frequently as new visa waivers and changes are implemented. Since its inception, the Passport Index has become the leading global mobility intelligence platform.
