Dumelang! I’m Jed Kagiso Fidler and I’m a 20 year old Motswana and here’s my profile. Kagiso is a Setswana name, which means ‘peace’.
I’m a manager at a company called Syngenta Holdings (Pty) Ltd. I describe myself as being outdoorsy, funny, playful in person but in my workplace I’m quite serious and always angry 🙂 I’m not sure how other people would describe me, I think everyone has different opinions about me. I enjoy Bird watching, educating myself on wildlife and occasionally I like to watch football. Where do I think (or hope) to see myself in one year from now? Hopefully, in England pushing my hustles.
My Background…
My home village is Maun (Botswana) and if I had to use one word to describe Maun, it would be AMAZING! I currently live in Botswana’s capital city, Gaborone. In comparison to Maun, things in Gaborone are much faster and beef is expensive. Growing up in Botswana has been alright, my uncle was my inspiration – he always put a smile on people’s faces. People might be surprised to know I actually speak fluent Setswana. My greatest achievement so far was obtaining my driving license. I love the freedom!
Botswana…
I’m a proud Motswana because Botswana is a friendly nation, we’ve haven’t been at war with any other countries. Botswana is a wonderful country; it’s peaceful and has such an amazing variety of wildlife. Although, if there was one thing I could change about Botswana, it would be the heat!!!
I’ve been to lots of places – Shakawe, Gantsi, Orapa, Francistown, Palapye, Mahalapye, Serowe, Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Moremi Game Reserve, Tsodilo Hills, Mokolodi, Shashe Dam, Ntimbale and Dikgathong Dam. I think all of the places are nice in their own way, but I enjoyed Shakawe the most because of the amazing scenery and the animals. I have never been to the Khama Rhino Sanctuary before and I would like to because I would love to see a rhino.
I love travelling to places I haven’t been to before. I’d love to visit Alaska, see a polar bear and experience different living conditions. It’s certainly a lot cooler in Alaska than it is in Botswana. If I did leave Botswana, I would probably miss my favourite traditional meal – bogobe jwa lerotse and seswaa, which is like stiff porridge with pulled beef.
Botswana celebrated 50 years of Independence last year (2016), going forward I hope Botswana grows from strength to strength. I’d love to see safer roads, every child being entitled to an education and good health services. I’d also love to see a stop to poaching.
YourBotswana…
I discovered YourBotswana through the founders, who told me about the website when I met them in Maun over Christmas 2016. I’ve since seen their Facebook page. My first impressions is that the website is very clear and portrays information in a simple, yet understandable manner.
I enjoyed the post on Dual Citizenship and the Construction plans for the Mohembo Bridge. I enjoyed the Mohembo Bridge post, because I have been there and found it quite interesting. I took part in their Friends of YB competition on Facebook because I wanted to be a part of this website.
There’s nothing I can think of that I would like to see covered, I think they are covering everything already.
