Maun could soon become more than just the gateway to the Okavango Delta, it could also become a destination for specialised healthcare.

Plans are underway to expand the Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital services to attract international patients, with proposed developments including, oncology services for cancer treatment, cosmetic health services, plastic surgery, a gynaecology centre of excellence, a private ward and upgrades to existing hospital services.

Hospital Superintendent Lebogang Mokotedi revealed recently that the initiative will be pursued in partnership with the Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship under the Maun Integrated Creative Tourism Hub.

The initiative aims to link healthcare with tourism, attract investment, improve specialised medical services and contribute to Botswana’s economic development. With Maun serving as the gateway to the world-renowned Okavango Delta, the proposed expansion could open new opportunities for the district’s tourism and healthcare sectors.
