HP Antwerp expands investment in Botswana with BWP 137million

Belgian diamond trader, HB Antwerp has announced a transformative investment of 137 million Pula into its operations in Botswana, further solidifying the country’s position as a leading diamond hub on the African continent. 

Over the past 18 months, HB has invested a total of 315 million Pula in Botswana, including this latest commitment, aimed at enhancing diamond processing capabilities and creating hundreds of skilled jobs for Batswana.

This new investment will bring state-of-the-art technology and advanced machinery to HB Botswana’s operations, making it one of the most sophisticated diamond manufacturing facilities in the world. The upgrades are expected to boost efficiency and quality, ensuring Botswana remains competitive in the global diamond market. These technological advancements will not only improve production capabilities but also support the creation of new jobs and the development of specialised skills within Botswana’s workforce.

HB’s investment aligns with its “In Botswana, By Batswana” vision, which prioritises local talent development through comprehensive training programmes. According to Omogolo Mathumo, HB Botswana’s Communications Manager, the initiative underscores the company’s commitment to ensuring that Botswana’s diamond industry is powered by its own people using world-class technology.

“This investment goes beyond job creation,” said Mathumo. “It’s about equipping Batswana with valuable skills that will have a lasting impact on the economy, ensuring long-term sustainability and growth for Botswana’s diamond industry.”
