With three decades of relations under their belt, Malaysia and Botswana will explore new areas of cooperation that will yield mutual benefit to the two countries, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said this was agreed upon during his meeting with Botswana Vice-President Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.
“Botswana remains an important friend and partner to Malaysia in the African region and our relations remain strong, based on respect, trust and shared aspiration for the people of the two countries,” he said after the meeting.
The Prime Minister said among Malaysian investments in Botswana was automotive wiring and maintenance of the country’s locomotive system and its coaches.
He said that Vice-President Gaolathe also expressed appreciation for the collaboration between the two countries through Pemandu, a Malaysian-based global consultancy firm hired by the Botswana government to help with its Economic Transformation Programme (BETP). This collaboration has helped boost the abilities of institutions in Botswana, which is essential to the country’s economic growth agenda and reforms in the civil service.
Later in the evening, the Prime Minister attended a dinner with the Malaysian diaspora in South Africa.
