His Excellency President Duma Gideon Boko, President of the Republic of Botswana, was briefed on the diverse investment opportunities in the Sultanate of Oman during his official visit to the Oman Investment Authority (OIA) this morning.

Upon his arrival at the OIA headquarters, the President was welcomed by His Excellency Abdul Salam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, Chairman of the Oman Investment Authority. During the meeting, His Excellency Al Murshidi presented an overview of the Authority’s mandate, investment portfolios, and the strategy used for distributing investments across sectors and regions both inside and outside Oman.

As part of the visit, President Boko also attended presentations by several OIA-affiliated companies.

The briefings highlighted key investment opportunities in strategic sectors, including clean energy (such as wind, solar, and green hydrogen), mining, logistics, and food security — areas identified as having strong potential for mutual collaboration between Oman and Botswana.

Discussions also covered Oman’s experience in establishing and managing a sovereign wealth fund, with a focus on governance and sustainable investment practices. Botswana expressed interest in learning from Oman’s model to enhance its own sovereign investment capabilities.

President Boko’s visit comes as Botswana continues to strengthen its position as one of Africa’s most promising economies — ranked as the world’s largest producer of diamonds by value, with a strong credit rating placing it among the top two African nations in creditworthiness.

The visiting delegation included senior officials from Botswana’s investment, energy, minerals, agriculture, aviation, and development cooperation sectors — reflecting the broad scope of areas being explored for partnership.

In a statement to the Oman News Agency, President Boko emphasised that the visit aims to deepen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy, mining, infrastructure, investment, and financial sectors. He noted that the visit follows a series of meetings between the two sides that began in July 2025, and that a memorandum of understanding has since been signed, with activation efforts now underway in selected sectors.

President Boko praised the strong and growing ties between the two countries, highlighting plans to open a Botswana embassy in Oman in the near future.

He also noted ongoing discussions regarding a mutual visa exemption agreement to facilitate easier travel for citizens of both nations.

For his part, His Excellency Al Murshidi reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to enhancing economic integration with Botswana. He highlighted opportunities in food security, including the import of red meat from Botswana and the export of fish and seafood products from Oman. He also confirmed interest in strengthening cooperation in the energy sector, as well as in new areas currently being explored.
