Boomitra expands into biomass-based carbon removal with Botswana project

29 July 2025

US-based soil carbon specialist Boomitra has announced its entry into biomass-based carbon dioxide removal (CDR) with a new project in Botswana, marking a significant expansion beyond its core focus on soil carbon.

The project, which is named the Oasis Biomass Carbon Removal and Storage Project, aims to tackle woody bush encroachment, restore grazing lands and permanently sequester carbon content.

It aspires to rehabilitate 10,000 hectares and sequester over 200,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent during its first decade-long phase.

This development is Boomitra’s first move into biomass-driven CDR, reflecting its intention to broaden its portfolio of nature-based removal solutions.

Boomitra has gained international recognition for its use of AI and satellite technologies to monitor, report and verify soil carbon sequestration, enabling the issuance of high-integrity credits across multiple continents. Its soil-focused projects have already covered millions of acres and contributed hundreds of thousands of credits to voluntary carbon markets.
