The Minister of Higher Education of the Republic of Botswana, Prince Maele, has applauded Ghana for its initiatives and progress in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
According to the minister, the future of education in Africa lies in STEM—particularly in technical and vocational education—and Ghana is emerging as a model for the continent.
Hon. Prince Maele made the remarks during a visit to the Biriwa Technical Institute in the Central Region. A delegation from Botswana’s Ministry of Higher Education, led by Hon. Maele, is in Ghana on what they describe as a benchmarking mission.
The eight-member delegation, which includes representatives from Botswana and Planet One, is in Ghana to study Ghana’s TVET administration and explore ways of replicating its successes back home. The delegation said Botswana is seeking to transform its TVET system, making the benchmarking mission a crucial step towards collaboration and reform.
They praised Ghana’s TVET ecosystem as one of the best in Africa, following a tour of the departments and workshops at the Biriwa Technical Institute.
There, they interacted with students and instructors to understand how the system operates in practice.
The Manager of the Institute, Ing. Samuel Kwashie Amegbor, welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of the institute’s activities. A student from the Building and Construction Department also conducted a demonstration.
Hon. Maele said what impressed them the most was the strong relationship between training institutions and industry, describing it as a key element worth emulating.
