Giyani Metals Corp (TSX-V:EMM, OTC:CATPF) said on Wednesday it has appointed Gavin Horscroft as operations manager and promoted Sean Thijsse to vice president, corporate development, as the company pushes forward with its K.Hill battery-grade manganese project in Botswana.
Horscroft, a chemical engineer with four decades of experience in Africa’s mining and metallurgical industries, joins Giyani following senior roles at Impala Platinum and AngloGold Ashanti, where he oversaw operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Giyani said his expertise in process flowsheet development and hydrometallurgy will support the final stages of commissioning for its demonstration plant and the construction of a commercial-scale facility.
CEO Charles FitzRoy said Horscroft’s appointment “will be a major asset as we optimise the Demo Plant, progress and finalise the DFS, and move towards construction of the Commercial Plant.”
Thijsse, who joined Giyani in January as head of corporate development from private equity firm The Pallinghurst Group, has been leading the company’s offtake and funding strategy. The company said his promotion comes as it ramps up engagement with potential financing partners following the first production of battery-grade manganese from its demonstration facility in Johannesburg.
“These appointments reflect Giyani’s ongoing transformation as we continue to make significant strides in achieving major milestones and move meaningfully towards commercial production,” FitzRoy added.
Giyani is developing the K.Hill project to supply high-purity manganese, a critical material for electric vehicle batteries and energy storage technologies.
