The Ministry of Communications and Innovation (MCI) under the 2024 National Research Call has awarded Chawangwa Damba, a distinguished researcher under the BITRI Specialty Chemicals research group, a BPW 13,641,300.00.
The grant will support her pioneering project titled, “Synthesis and Production of Carbon Nano-materials from Botswana Subbituminous Coal,” and will help make a significant contribution in advancing sustainable and innovative technologies in material science.
The award marks a major milestone in Chawangwa’s career and a substantial contribution to the research and development (R&D) trajectory.
This project will explore novel ways of utilising Botswana’s abundant sub-bituminous coal resources for the synthesis of carbon nano-materials, which have a wide range of industrial applications.
The success of the project holds great potential not only for advancing scientific knowledge but also for contributing to Botswana’s technological and economic development.
Chawangwa’s achievement is a team effort by the Specialty Chemicals research group, with the collective expertise and collaboration having been instrumental in the development and success of the proposal.
