Botswana’s latest international trade statistics report indicated on Monday that most of the country’s exports were delivered to Asia in October 2023.
Asia, the Southern African Customs Union, and the European Union represented 46.6%, 20.6%, and 3.8% of the total exports in October 2023, according to the country’s data authority, Statistics Botswana.
The most exported commodities from Botswana in October were diamonds, copper, and machinery and electrical equipment, contributing 46.0%, 25.2%, and 9.8% to total exports, respectively.
The report also said that Botswana’s merchandise exports in October were 2.7 billion pula (about 200 million U.S. dollars), reflecting a 31.6% decline from the previous month. The United Arab Emirates, South Africa, China, and Australia received exports, accounting for 21.9%, 18.9 percent, 12.8%, and 10.9% of the monthly total exports, respectively.
