Great Plains, the renowned eco-tourism company, has launched its latest venture, Sitatunga Private Island, a unique water-based Réserve-Collection Safari Camp located in the upper regions of Botswana’s majestic Okavango Delta. This extraordinary camp, constructed on an elevated deck made from reclaimed railway sleepers, offers luxurious and exclusive accommodation for up to four adults across two stunning private suites.

The Sitatunga Private Island Suite boasts a spacious double bedroom, comfortably accommodating four adults or a family of two adults and up to three children, with a generous total footprint of approximately 607m2.

For larger groups, the camp can host up to eight guests, who can enjoy the two suites and the two-bedroom Sitatunga Private Island Suite.

In line with Great Plains’ commitment to sustainability, Sitatunga Private Island is predominantly built from recycled materials, breathing new life into forgotten treasures. This ethos ensures that avid explorers can immerse themselves in a ‘slow safari’ experience that beautifully combines luxury with environmental consciousness. Each guest suite, as well as the two-bedroom suite, features an indoor lounge area, exquisitely designed bathrooms complete with baths and separate showers, a private deck boasting outdoor lounging and seating areas, and a private pool that offers sweeping vistas of the lagoon that stretches out before the camp.

Sitatunga Private Island promises visitors an authentic ‘Robinson Crusoe’-inspired adventure and a sanctuary for the soul amidst the captivating landscapes of the Okavango Delta.

Great Plains CEO, Dereck Joubert, asserts, “Sitatunga Private Island is a truly exceptional addition to the Great Plains portfolio, pushing the boundaries of eco-design in a remote region of Botswana whilst still delivering the utmost in hospitality and accommodation.

Moreover, it remains one of the few places in the world where guests can witness the rare aquatic antelope, the sitatunga, either from the comfort of the camp or by venturing out on a boat, which is the main activity here, alongside guided walks.

This region of the Okavango Delta is teeming with diverse birdlife and offers incredible opportunities to spot elephants, crocodiles, and hippos while boating. I am confident that our guests will relish every moment of their stay, just as I do.”

With its commitment to sustainability, luxurious amenities, and unparallelled wildlife opportunities, Sitatunga Private Island epitomises the perfect fusion of elegance, eco-consciousness, and unspoiled natural beauty. As Great Plains continues to redefine the boundaries of eco-tourism, its latest creation promises a truly unforgettable experience for discerning travellers who seek a retreat into the heart of Botswana’s remarkable wilderness.
