Si6 Metals’ (ASX:Si6) wholly owned subsidiary African Metals has been issued new joint venture (JV) licences, which has resulted in exploration and drilling activities currently underway in Botswana.
The company has replaced its old JV licences, which were previously suspended for around 7 years. Additionally, Si6 Metals reports these licences encompass the advanced nickel-copper-cobalt-platinum group elements (Ni-Cu-Co-PGE) resource at Maibele North and ‘high-grade’ copper-gold (Cu-Ag) discoveries at Airstrip and Dibete.
Si6 Metals reports most of the drilling programs at the JV licences were conducted before 2014. This drilling formed the basis of a resource calculation for Maibele with 2.4 million tonnes (Mt) @ 0.72% Ni and 0.21% Cu + PGMs + Au).
In addition, drilling at the Airstrip and Dibete prospects has not been assessed for potential resource calculations, yet follow-up drilling will confirm the potential for this.
In recent years, the company has continued discussions surrounding the reinstatement of the JV licences with multiple stakeholders, including the liquidators of BCL and various Botswana government bodies such as the Department of Mines, Ministry of Minerals and Energy, and the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA).
BCL Limited has spent $4 million on exploration expenditure to earn its 40% JV interest in the JV tenements. Additionally, Si6 owns the other 60% of the JV licences.
Si6 Metals is an ASX-listed exploration company, exploring for base and precious metals in the Limpopo Mobile Belt in Botswana. The company’s Base Metal Project contains nickel sulphide mineralisation, related to ultramafic intrusions within mobile belt rocks.
