“These are complex targets, in an area where there was almost no prior geological data”
Kavango Resources PLC (LSE:KAV, OTC:KVGOF) said it has completed its four-hole drilling programme at Ditau in Botswana with core samples now being assayed or made ready.
Ben Turney, chief executive, said;
“We have come a long way with Ditau in a very short period of time.
“These are complex targets, in an area where there was almost no prior geological data.
“All holes have been logged and sampled, a wide range of geological units were seen, including sediments, intrusive bodies, and in hole DITDD004, zones tens of metres thick with locally abundant shearing, veining and alteration, including significant sulphide mineralisation.”
Turney added that its exploration on the Kalahari Copper Belt, meanwhile, had identified and located several key Ngwako Pan-D’kar formational contacts across several licence areas.
“This is an important step towards validating our original exploration hypothesis that the western half of the KCB in Botswana was both prospective for copper/silver mineralisation and overlooked because the sand cover obscured much of the regional geology.
“This will lead to clearly defined drill targets a little later in 2022.”
Kavango is carrying out the exploration through Kanye Resources, its 50:50 joint venture with Power Metal Resources.
Power Metal Resources sees Botswana projects advancing apace
Power Metal Resources PLC (AIM:POW) chief executive Paul Johnson has highlighted that work at the Kanye project in Botswana is “proceeding at some pace”. The company, in a statement, reported that 3,478 samples have so far been collected from an ongoing soil sampling campaign.
This work has seen the Kanye team successfully identify the ‘ Ngwako Pan – D’kar’ formation contact across multiple licences in the Kalahari copper belt – with the company noting that this feature is a “crucial structural control for copper/silver mineralisation” within the broader belt.
Kanye has also deployed a passive seismic geophysics ‘Tromino’ unit to help map overburden and subsoil layers, the company noted. Meanwhile, talks are underway with contractors for a reverse circulation drill programme slated to start later this year.
Elsewhere in Botswana, the company’s partner Kavango has completed its four-hole drilling programme at the Ditau project. Core samples are now being assayed or made ready, Kavango said in a separate statement.
Paul Johnson, chief executive officer of Power Metal, said;
“The work of the Kanye JV is proceeding at some pace, and we await with interest the results of the simultaneous work programmes underway across Ditau and the Kalahari Copper Belt in Botswana.
“At Ditau ,we are looking forward to the receipt of assay results from the completed drilling, whilst at the KCB the outcomes of the extensive preparatory work, undertaken across the significant licence footprint, are focusing towards targets for a maiden RC drilling programme.
“I trust with market conditions still challenging in the junior resource sector, that shareholders will appreciate that Power Metal and Kavango still have the exploration mindset and continue to drive towards making major metal discoveries in Botswana.”
