Botswana-born, Auckland-based hip-hop artist Phodiso has dropped his newest single Rough, the second from his upcoming EP, Act III. The track expertly explores the phenomenon of trying to run away from one’s problems, before coming to the realisation that the only way out is through.
Co-produced by Phodiso and frequent collaborator Carawei Gao (Venom Dolls, Milk Avenue Studio), Rough showcases Phodiso’s Southern African roots through his vocal delivery which is charged by his native Tswana sensibilities and intonations, over a bass-line drawn from strong Afro-house and Amapiano inspiration.

Due for release on 10 December, Act III is the final instalment of the three-EP project that has launched Phodiso’s solo career and introduced his unique perspective and style.
Born in Gaborone, Botswana, Phodiso began learning Tswana percussion styles through community song and dance ceremonies. Since settling in Aotearoa in his teens, the multi-disciplinary, multilingual artist has further developed his creative approach and shared his gift of language and rhythm while honoring his Southern Afrikan hip-hop and Afro jazz influences.
