The Mo Ibrahim Foundation this week announced former President Festus Mogae as the new Chair of the Prize Committee for the Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership. Mogae takes over from Salim Ahmed Salim, who served as Chair from 2011-2019.
Working independently of the Foundation, the Prize Committee reviews all eligible candidates for the Ibrahim Prize, which recognises exceptional political leadership in Africa. Launched in 2006, the Prize has been awarded six times.
“I am honoured to accept this role and I look forward to working with my fellow committee members. We have been privileged to be guided in our work by Salim Ahmed Salim and Kofi Annan, who themselves exemplify so many of the qualities that the Ibrahim Prize celebrates.” Mogae said.
For his part, Mo Ibrahim said;
“I congratulate Festus Mogae on his appointment. As a winner of the Ibrahim Prize himself, he has first-hand insight into the challenge of leadership in Africa. On behalf of the Foundation, I would like to express my deep gratitude to Salim Ahmed Salim for his wise counsel over the last decade, helping the Foundation to find three very worthy Ibrahim Laureates.”
We, at YourBotswana, would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Rre Mogae on his new role, a role we strongly believe he will carry out with integrity and honour. Pula!
