The Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) is taking steps towards integrating renewable energy into its water infrastructure, with plans to develop floating solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants on its dams.
The corporation has initiated the process by inviting expressions of interest from qualified companies for the design, development and operation of floating solar PV systems across its dam infrastructure.
The tender, referenced as WUC 056 (2026) and published on 22 October 2026, signals a potential milestone in WUC’s efforts to advance renewable energy integration and promote more sustainable water infrastructure management.
According to the tender notice, the Expression of Interest (EOI) aims to identify capable and suitably qualified firms that may subsequently be invited to submit detailed proposals under a Request for Proposals (RFP) process.
The procurement exercise is open to eligible local companies, joint ventures and consortia. Foreign companies, including joint ventures involving foreign firms, are also permitted to participate.
The procurement will be conducted through an Expression of Interest process, with submissions assessed against specified qualification and selection criteria.
The planned floating solar installations will represent an important opportunity to explore the use of existing water reservoirs for renewable energy generation while supporting the corporation’s broader sustainability objectives.
Further details on the proposed capacity, project locations, implementation timelines and investment requirements would be expected as the procurement process progresses.
