Mmadinare solar cluster advances Botswana’s renewable energy goals
TGS Prediktor, a provider of industrial digitalisation and operational technology solutions, has delivered its Prediktor PowerView Plant SCADA platform for the Mmadinare Solar Cluster being developed by Scatec in Botswana.
The deployment supports one of Botswana’s largest renewable energy projects and comes as the country accelerates investments in solar power generation to diversify its energy mix and improve electricity security.
Digital monitoring for a growing solar portfolio
Located near the village of Mmadinare in eastern Botswana, the solar cluster is being developed in two phases with a total planned installed capacity of 120 MW. The first phase, comprising 60 MW, has already entered commercial operation, while construction of the remaining capacity is underway.
As part of the project, TGS Prediktor implemented its PowerView SCADA solution, providing a centralised platform for real-time monitoring, operational control and performance analysis across the solar facility.
The platform collects and aggregates high-resolution operational data from plant equipment, allowing operators to monitor asset performance, identify faults and oversee operations through a single interface.
Enhancing operational visibility and asset performance
Designed with a scalable architecture, PowerView enables operators to visualise plant performance, manage alarms and events, track production key performance indicators (KPIs) and generate operational reports. These capabilities support more efficient asset management and help renewable energy operators optimise performance across expanding energy portfolios.
Will Ashby, Executive VP of Business Development at TGS, said: “Botswana is taking important steps to strengthen its energy mix through large-scale solar development.
Digital platforms like PowerView help operators scale renewable generation efficiently by providing the operational visibility and intelligence needed to manage assets, optimise performance, and support long-term portfolio growth.”
Supporting Botswana’s renewable energy ambitions
Once fully operational, the Mmadinare Solar Cluster is expected to generate approximately 280 GWh of clean electricity annually. The project is also projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 380,000 tonnes each year, contributing to Botswana’s broader sustainability and climate objectives.
The implementation further reinforces the long-standing collaboration between TGS Prediktor and Scatec, with both companies continuing to work together on digital solutions that improve the efficiency, reliability and performance of large-scale renewable energy assets.
