- Mega project to be unveiled in the first week of June
- Designs have been evaluated and investors are ready, construction will begin immediately – President Boko
President Advocate Duma Boko has revealed that a world-class international convention and exhibition centre will be constructed in Gaborone, in an investment worth billions of pula.
Addressing workers during May Day commemorations in Letlhakane on Friday, President Boko said that after unveiling the landmark Maun 500MW Solar Project, the next mega investment will be the conferencing facility, set to become a global benchmark unlike anything Botswana and the region have ever seen.
“We will be unveiling the World Trade Centre Convention and International Exhibition Centre in Gaborone, part of global investments worth $1.8 billion.
At the beginning of June, in the first week, we will be launching this mega project, and construction will begin immediately.
Designs are already complete. This is an evaluated project that has passed the feasibility study, and the investors are ready,” the president said.
A World Trade Centre (WTC) convention centre is a premier, multipurpose facility designed to host international conventions, trade shows, exhibitions, and corporate events. These centres are usually part of the World Trade Centres Association (WTCA) network.
They combine large-scale event spaces with business services aimed at fostering international trade, networking, and economic development in major urban hubs.
As of May 2020, the WTCA included 323 licensed properties in 90 countries, supported by approximately 15,000 professionals. The association serves as a global network connecting corporations and government agencies involved in international trade.
