Progress on the Francistown–Nata Road Project continues to accelerate, marking a significant step forward in Botswana’s national infrastructure revitalisation agenda.

The Okavango Africa Consortium, which is leading the upgrade of the 200-kilometre A3 highway, says construction teams remain fully mobilised on site, executing each phase with an emphasis on precision, safety and long-term durability.

Development Manager Moemedi Gabana confirmed that the project has now advanced to the priming stage, a key phase that precedes full tarmac surfacing.  He noted that productivity has improved substantially following the deployment of an asphalt paver, a specialised machine that streamlines the layering process.

Unlike conventional equipment that requires multiple passes to complete two lanes, the new paver delivers faster and more consistent output, allowing the project team to maintain a tighter schedule.

Gabana added that if the current pace is sustained, traffic will begin using the newly constructed section of the road by February next year.

Once that segment is opened, construction will shift to the opposite side, ensuring uninterrupted progress while keeping road users moving. Structural works are also advancing steadily, with bridge construction well in progress. The overall project has reached 35% completion, and full delivery remains on track for 2027.

The upgrade of the A3 is expected to enhance mobility, strengthen trade corridors, and support economic activity across northern Botswana.
