The Minister for State President, Honourable Moeti Caesar Mohwasa, yesterday officially launched the aesthetically transformed version of the DailyNews newspaper and the all-encompassing Mass Media website, ensuring all government media content becomes accessible to every Motswana at the click of a button.

In his launch address, Mohwasa said both initiatives are central to government’s vision of building a vibrant creative economy, highlighting the commercialisation of government media will generate revenue, foster partnerships and augment government efforts of reinvesting in local content production and training.

Minister Mohwasa  also said the redesigned, enhanced DailyNews would serve as a platform for dialogue and reflection where the voice of every citizen matters, urging the state media to evolve to stay relevant in the current globally competitive media landscape.

Chronicling the history of the paper, former Managing Editor of the Daily News, Keboeletse Nkarabang, stated the editorial policy of the state-owned daily publication during the formative years centred around developmental news, adding that after training journalists, the focus expanded to human interest stories.

For his part, the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Information Services, Broadcasting Services and Government Printing Publishing, Tshireletso Motlogelwa, said the unveiling represented a major leap forward in Botswana’s digital transformation journey, labelling the milestone as a symbol of national heritage and pride

Botswana’s new Mass Media Website and revamped DailyNews online paper are being positioned as a single digital gateway for all government public media, converging information services, broadcasting, printing and radio under one roof. The platform will centralise content from the Department of Information Services, DailyNews, Btvnews, Btv1,and Btv2 Radio Botswana and RB2, extending the Mass Media Complex’s role as a modern public broadcasting hub into a fully integrated online environment.
