President Duma Boko has announced a strategic partnership between Botswana and a consortium of four global investors, Thirty-Five Global Links, Mercuria Asia Holdings, Ulsan Holding, and Innovation Global Industries, to modernise the country’s power infrastructure and secure sustainable energy.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, President Boko said the rehabilitation of Morupule A and B power stations would transform Botswana’s energy landscape.

“Morupule B will operate at 95% capacity, producing about 600 megawatts, while Morupule A’s lifespan will be extended by up to 15 years,” he said.

Minister of Minerals and Energy, Bogolo Kenewendo, noted that the initiative aligns with the Botswana Energy Compact and aims to achieve universal electricity access by 2030. The project will reduce electricity imports, enhance energy reliability, and position Botswana as a future power exporter, ensuring long-term economic sustainability.
