It’s been a few days since Isaac Makwala won the men 400m Diamond League this week but it would be remiss of us not to give him a mention and congratulate him once again on his gold success in Zurich!
Following the fiasco that was London, nobody can dispute Isaac was fully deserving of the win in Zurich. Isaac snatched victory in a comfortable time of 43.95, which he celebrated with five press-ups, something that has become his trademark since London.
Steven Gardiner’s unfortunate stumble, which left him sprawling inside the first five metres made Isaac’s bid for gold that much easier. While we commiserate with Steven, who would have been Isaac’s main rival in Wayde Van Niekerk’s absence, we’re not just about to grumble. With this win, Isaac has well and truly redeemed himself.
Next up, Botswana is now pinning further hope on Nijel Amos in the final meet of the Diamond League billed for Brussels, Belgium on the 1st of September 2017. The race is scheduled to start at 2143hrs (CAT).
Amos is sitting pretty at the top of the league with 32 points after finishing in first position during the Birmingham Diamond League meet, recording a time of 1:44.50.
Congratulations once again, Isaac and way to go; very well deserved. Long may the victories continue! And of course, good luck to you Nijel Amos.
