The hunting of 400 elephants for pleasure is just obscene and shows the stupidity of the government. These animals do no harm and a different approach should be considered. STOP this cruel and horrific act.

I have been visiting Botswana for the last 25 years and I am disgusted that this issuing of trophy hunting licenses has been implemented. General tourists are just not aware of the corruption carried out by some unscrupulous concession owners along with local and national politicians. (I have had personal contact with such people). The sheer numbers of elephants is due in no small part to the success of anti poaching measures but hunting 400 bulls does no good for the local communities as a whole due again to corruption in certain areas nor to the gene pool as is suggested in your article.
Leave the control of numbers of elephants to the experts who take the cull to a professional and humane approach using knowledge of the locales. Using ‘cant miss’ high powered weapons in the hands of egotistical small people is just abhorrent beyond words.
