President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi this week laid a wreath in honour of Botswana’s fallen heroes and heroines at the Three Chiefs monument (Three Dikgosi monument). This was in commemoration of Botswana’s ‘Fallen Heroes Day’ which celebrates the country’sheroes and heroines who paid the ultimate sacrifice serving Botswana.
President Masisi, accompanied by the First Lady Ms Neo Masisi and other senior government officials joined the Botswana Defence Force, family members and friends to pay tribute to all those who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The Fallen Heroes Day commemoration began on 27th February 2011, to remember those who lost their lives in their line of duty.The day was previously called the Lesoma Commemoration, which honoured the 15 BDF soldiers who were killed during the Lesoma Ambush by the Ian Smith led Rhodesian regime on the 27th February 1978.
