Companies walk for rhinos

Safari Embassy in collaboration with other local companies has started a 19-day walk for rhinos campaign. The walk will take them from Shakawe to Gudigwa, Gudigwa to Khwai and eventually conclude in Maun on November 24.

Led by Safari Embassy Travel, the campaign is aimed at raising awareness about the importance of conserving and protecting endangered species in the communities living within areas where there are animals such as rhinos.

Speaking at the official launch of the walk for rhinos, Safari Embassy Manager, Kane Motswana said the main objective of the campaign was to involve the community in conservation matters by sensitising them about the importance of conserving wildlife, in particular, rhinos.

“The campaign also seeks to empower the community to act against poaching and other intrusive actions that may bring rhinos to extinction,” he said.

In a show of solidarity and the staunch commitment to protect Botswana’s wildlife, industry giants responded to the cause in their droves. The campaign has drawn a lot of support from local safari companies, conservation organisations and community trusts, among them Wilderness Safaris, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, Rhino Conservation Botswana, Helicopter Horizons, Nature Guide Training Botswana, Okavango community trust, Mababe community trust, Sanctuary Retreats, Sankoyo Community Trust and Saguni Lodge.
