BITRI develops FMD diagnostic test


The Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Patrick Ralotsia says the Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation-BITRI is in the process of developing a Foot and Mouth Disease- FMD rapid diagnostic test. Minister Ralotsia recently made the revelation to Parliament in response to a question from Chobe MP, Machana Shamukuni about progress made on the development of the Foot and Mouth Disease rapid diagnostic test.

He further said the kit had been launched and that it would have to undergo rigorous validation, proficiency testing and accreditation before being approved in accordance with international protocols. Minister Ralotsia said once the test had gone through all due processes and been approved, it would be adopted accordingly.
