Water tariffs to go up effective April 1

Parliament heard on Monday from the Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi that

Since 2008, potable water connection fees were reviewed once in 2015 while water tariffs were reviewed twice.

Mr Molapisi said;

“Currently, Water Utilities Corporation provides water at the standard rate of up to 50 metres for P2,000, which includes the corporation digging the trenches and P1,500, where the customers dig trenches for themselves.”

He said this was increased from the original P840 with no option of people digging the trenches themselves. Mr Molapisi further said as with potable water, tariffs were increased by 10 percent in 2012 and again by 15% in 2013. He indicated that the tariffs would increase by 25 percent for government and 15 percent for domestic and business clients effective from April 1.
