The Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Mr. Vincent Seretse, on December 2 officially opened the expanded Mowana Park Shopping Centre at Phakalane in Gaborone.
The first phase of the mall began in 2005. In 2013, it was felt that Phakalane had grown to the point where it needed additional shops and restaurants. Based on that, P120-million was spent on the expansion project. All contractors and sub-contractors used on the project were local companies.
Minister Seretse said at the opening of the mall that the money spent in the development was a clear demonstration that Moskovic Group, the company behind the construction, has confidence in the economy and future of Botswana.
Mr. Seretse also said that the construction industry continues to help the economy by creating employment opportunities for citizens during and post construction.
The Minister expressed gratitude towards the Moskovic Group for their foresight and confidence in Botswana through their substantial investment. He said the investment has brought Phakalane residents a much needed, world class shopping experience.
Mowana Park Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Dan Moskovic said they were proud to have local tenants with locally developed concepts that show the entrepreneurial spirit of Batswana.
I couldn’t find any pictures of the re-vamped mall, but will source some shortly.
