It may seem incredulous because Botswana doesn’t have a movie industry to speak of, but it is true!
The ministries of Youth Empowerment Sport and Culture Development, and Environment Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism’s anti-poaching unit have pledged P10 million towards the production of a local movie. The movie will reportedly star famous Hollywood actor, Chuck Norris.
It’s expected for the movie, titled “Blood Brothers” to create jobs, put Botswana on the map beyond the region as well as to open up ‘other opportunities.’ “Blood Brothers” co-producer, Imani Seboni said this during a press conference in Gaborone. Seboni said the movie was written by a US-based Motswana and will feature many Batswana actors.
He further said instead of Hollywood coming to Botswana, the “Blood Brothers” movie would turn the situation around for Botswana. No doubt, replicating the success of recently released “A United Kingdom” will be a mean feat for “Blood Brothers”. But the fact that it stars an easily recognisable star (albeit one who’s not done anything for a while), may very well help elevate the movie. We wait with baited breath.
